Employee retention is one of the most critical aspects of human resource management. In the competitive market and remote work trends, employee retention is a vital process for all the businesses. And employee’s developing expectations are also affected for the retention stage at any organization. This is not only a cost saving project related to hiring and training, but also improves the company’s productivity, reputation, engagement and culture. There are several things that organization can do to improve the employee retention. Here, I have discussed few top strategies for 2024 year to retain your valuable asset in your organization after searching some literatures.


1. Proposal Flexible Work Arrangements

With the covid 19 pandemic situation, working pattern changed to a flexible method and employees gradually preferred to a remote and hybrid method. By offering an above type flexible work schedules and remote work opportunities, directly affect to retain talent by using work-life balance. 52% of employees favour flexible work pattern and most probably companies offer this pattern to retain talent (McKinsey & Company, 2023).

2. Line up Career Development Opportunities

It is essential to provide pathways for growing and developing of employees and then they enagage and motivate. Conducting some learning & development programs as an example, mentorship and personal/skill development workshops demonstrate an assurance to employee success and decrease their turnover.

3. Build a Positive Company Culture

Let’s see how this affect for the employee retention. Truly, this is a vital role that building a strong positive culture in the organization and then provide a transparent, recognized workplace to the employees. In the Deloitte, 2023 article, it is clearly mentioned that 94% - executive level employees and 88% lower-level employees preferred a positive workplace culture and this affects for the organizations continues success.

4. Enhance Compensation and Benefits

Compensation and benefits are also directly affects to attract and retain top talent in the organization. Addition to their net salary, employees are looking at health insurance, retirement plans, medical programs, study reimbursement programs and employee discounts on products or services that are offered by the company etc. to retain in the company.  67% of employees consider leaving if they feel low level salary compared to other industry standards (PayScale, 2023).

When employees have a opportunities for advancements, definitely they retain in that organization. Hence, it is essential to understand each employee’s career opportunities in the organizational structure. After monitoring their regular performances, competency assessments, they can be promoted.

7.  A Strong Manager-Employee Relationships

Top management and mid managers play a significant role in the employee retention and the satisfactions. Most of organizations invest in leadership development trainings, communication skill trainings etc. to the manager level to build up effective relationships between their team. (Gallup, 2023)

HR technologies, such as employee engagements, feedback survey forms, and analytical methods, can help a firm identify the risk of retention earlier and help in building personalized employee experiences.

Conclusion

There are just few examples of retention plans the businesses can implement. The best retention plan will vary depending on the specific needs of the business and its employees. It means if the organizations understand the need for flexibility, development opportunities, company culture, and well-being, loyalty is created and turnover is reduced.
